Michelle is an orphaned teenager drifting alone in a post-apocalyptic world. When she meets a battered old drone named Skip her whole life changes. The Electric State is a sci-fi adventure movie. It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the filmmaking duo behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as well as Extraction and The Gray Man. The Electric State is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely who are frequent collaborators with the Russo brothers. The pair have written a selection of movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as Pain & Gain and The Gray Man. The movie is produced by AGBO Productions for Netflix.
The movie is based on the illustrated novel of the same name by Simon Stalenhag. The book was released in 2017 and is inspired by Twin Peaks, The X-Files and the music of Nirvana. The Russo Brothers acquired the rights to turn the book into a movie in 2017.
The Electric State features an ensemble cast of Hollywood names led by Millie Bobby Brown in the role of Michelle. She is joined by Chris Pratt who stars as Keats. The cast includes Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Martin Klebba, and Woody Norman. The movie also features the voices of Brian Cox, Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie, Billy Bob Thornton, and Jenny Slate.
The Electric State is set in 1997 in an alternate dystopian reality. The movie takes place in the ruins of society after an apocalyptic drone war.
