Tron: Ares is an upcoming science fiction movie produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Paradox. Tron: Ares is directed by Joachim Ronning, a filmmaker best known for the movies Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
The movie is written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne based on a story from Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird. Lisberger and MacBird are the writing and directing duo behind the original Tron movie. Tron: Ares is produced by Jeffrey Silver, Emma Ludbrook, Justin Springer, and Jared Leto.
The movie is a sequel to the 1982 movie Tron and the 2010 movie, TRON: Legacy. It is the third movie in the franchise.
Tron: Ares features an ensemble cast led by Jared Leto in the role of Ares. Leto is an award-winning actor who is known for his method acting as well as roles in movies such as Dallas Buyers Club, Blade Runner 2049, and Morbius. He is joined by Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Sarah Desjardins. Multi-award-winning actress Gillian Anderson stars in the movie. Jeff Bridges also returns to the franchise for the third time in the role of Kevin Flynn.
Filming on Tron: Ares began in January 2024 and finished in May 2024. Production on the movie was delayed originally by the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023.
