Synopsis
Young Elio is mistaken for Earth’s ambassador and is whisked away by aliens
Elio is an 11-year-old boy who just doesn’t fit in with life on Earth. Looking up to the stars, he dreams of a life beyond the planet. When he’s met by a group of aliens and taken on a journey through space, young Elio begins a whirlwind adventure. Elio is mistaken as an ambassador for planet Earth while his mother is doing everything she can to decode the messages sent by the aliens.

What is Elio about?
Elio is an upcoming animated adventure movie produced by Walt Disney Pictures with Pixar Animation Studios. Elio is the 28th animated feature movie produced by Pixar. It is directed by animator and storyboard artist Adrian Molina who is in the senior creative team at Pixar. He is known for his work on Toy Story 3 and Monsters University as well as being the writer and co-director of Coco. Elio is produced by Mary Alice Drumm and Pete Doctor.
Who is starring in Elio?
Elio stars Yonas Kibreab in the titular role. He is known for featuring in the television mini-series Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as the Netflix show Sweet Tooth. He is joined in the cast by multi-award-winning actress America Ferrera, who plays his mother Olga Solis. Ferrera had a breakout lead role in the television show Ugly Betty and has featured in Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Good Wife, and WeCrashed. Acclaimed actress Zoe Saldana stars in the movie as Elio's aunt.
Why was Elio delayed?
The movie was initially delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike while the movie was still being written. After the conclusion of the strike, the movie restarted production with the release having been delayed by a year.
