Lilo is a young, lonely orphan girl living in Hawaii who wants nothing more than a friend. So when an alien creature crash lands on Earth and seeks her help, the pair hit it off immediately. Stitch is a genetic experiment escapee who is programmed to wreak havoc across the galaxy. But when Stitch meets Lilo, the pair become as close as family and Stitch grows fond of his new friend. Together, they must resist the power of the intergalactic federation in order to keep their friendship alive.
Lilo & Stitch is an upcoming live-action CGI remake of the 2002 Disney movie of the same name. The remake is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, a filmmaker known for the movie Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. The movie is written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright who worked on the animated movie, Moana. Lilo & Stitch is produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Rideback, and Blue Koala Pictures for Disney+.
The movie stars Maia Kealoha in the role of Lilo Pelekai. Chris Sanders reprises his role from the original animated movie and voices Stitch. Other cast members include Zach Galifianakis, Sydney Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Kapio Dudoit, and Courtney B. Vance. Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee all reprise their roles from the original movie.
The movie began filming in May 2023 in Oahu, Hawaii. Despite troubles in production that ranged from on-set arson to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the movie continued to shoot on location in Maui. All of the visual effects, including bringing the alien Stitch to life, are handled by Industrial Light & Magic.
