Synopsis
Jakub Prochazka is not your regular everyday astronaut. Raised by his grandparents in the rural Czech Republic, Jakub pursues a career as a scientist before becoming the first Czech astronaut in history. When he is sent on a mysterious mission to Venus, Jakub shoots away from his life on Earth, leaving behind his wife Lenka. At the frontier of all human knowledge and in the pursuit of ancient dust, Jakub encounters a curious creature with whom he begins a dialogue. In the vastness of space, Jakub and his companion muse philosophical on the meaning of love, life, and death.

What to know
Spaceman is a science fiction drama movie produced by Free Association and Tango Entertainment. The film is directed by Swedish film and music video director Johan Renck. Renck is known for directing the HBO mini-series Chernobyl for which he was the recipient of both a Primetime Emmy Award and a BAFTA. Spaceman is based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia written by Jaroslav Kalfar. The adapted screenplay is written by Colby Day and the music is handled by German-British composer Max Richter.
Leading the cast in the role of Jakub Prochazka is American actor, comedian and producer Adam Sandler (Punch Drunk Love). He is joined by multi-award-winning English actress Carey Mulligan (Maestro) in the role of Lenka. The cast is rounded out by Paul Dano (There Will be Blood), Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) and Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet). Spaceman was released on Netflix on March 1, 2024.
