Perfect for fans of thoughtful and intense political thrillers
Conclave is an excellent political/religious thriller set during a papal conclave. It manages to be both a slow-burn mystery and an intense political thriller due to the brilliant use of an ominous score and cinematography to convey edge-of-your-seat suspense despite the movie being primarily talk-based with little action. Ralph Fiennes also shines as a conflicted Dean overseeing a conclave rife with corruption. Conclave is perfect for fans of films like Women Talking and Spotlight, which offer similar slow-burn but compelling thrillers, as well as anyone interested in a smart, beautifully crafted movie on religion, power, and corruption.
