What is Furiosa about?

Furiosa is an upcoming post-apocalyptic action movie based on the characters created by George Miller and Byron Kennedy. The movie is a spinoff and prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road and is the fifth movie in the franchise overall. As with all other movies in the franchise, Furiosa is written and directed by franchise creator George Miller. Nico Lathouris who is responsible for writing on both Mad Max and Mad Max: Fury Road is also credited as a writer on the movie. Furiosa is produced by Village Roadshow Pictures and Kennedy Miller Mitchell with George Miller and Doug Mitchell both signed on as producers.

Who stars in Furiosa?

Furiosa stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role of Imperator Furiosa. Taylor-Joy is known for her roles in the limited series, The Queen’s Gambit, for which she won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award. She plays opposite Chris Hemsworth who stars as Dementus. Hemsworth is known for his iconic portrayal of the character Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the movies Extraction and Spiderhead. The cast also includes Nathan Jones starring as Rictus Erectus, Angus Sampson as The Organic Mechanic, and Daniel Webber as War Boy. Tom Burke, Quaden Bayles, and Lachy Hulme are all also in the cast.

Did Anya Taylor-Joy really shave her head for the role?

Lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy did not actually shave her head for the role. Despite the fact that she wanted to follow in the footsteps of Charlize Theron, director George Miller cautioned against it in case she was needed for reshoots. 

Is Furiosa a prequel or a sequel?

Furiosa tells the origin story of one of the famous characters in the Mad Max franchise, Imperator Furiosa. The movie is considered a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. 

Why is Charlize Theron not starring as Furiosa?

While George Miller initially wanted Charlize Theron to reprise her role from Mad Max: Fury Road, he decided against it after witnessing the digital de-ageing technology available. Anya Taylor-Joy was cast in the lead role after the director saw her in Last Night in Soho.

Is Mad Max: The Wasteland the same movie as Furiosa?

Multiple Mad Max movies were announced to be in development with Furiosa and Mad Max: The Wasteland two separate projects. Mad Max: The Wasteland is one of three sequel movies that lead actor Tom Hardy is set to star in. 

Does Max feature in Furiosa?

The movie focuses on the story of Furiosa before she meets Max Rockatansky and therefore he does not feature in the film. Other characters from the Mad Max franchise that do feature include Immortan Joe, The Organic Mechanic, and Praetorian Jack.

Is Furiosa in the original Mad Max films?

The character of Furiosa was first introduced to the franchise in 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. She does not feature in the early Mad Max films such as Mad Max, Mad Max 2, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
