Indie auteur Mark Jenkin returns with another cult Cornish picture
Enys Men is an experimental folk horror movie produced by Film4 and distributed by NEON in North America. The movie is directed and written by indie filmmaker Mark Jenkin, who is known for producing work that explores the heritage and landscape of Cornwall, his birthplace. His previous movie Bait was the recipient of a selection of independent awards as well as a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Director. Like Bait, Enys Man is also shot on 16 mm film. Production for the movie took place over 21 days during the COVID-19 lockdown. The title of the movie translates to Stone Island in the local language of Cornish.
Mary Woodvine leads the cast as The Volunteer. She is known for having appeared in the British television soap EastEnders as well as a series of stage performances. Her father John Woodvine also appears in the movie as The Preacher, having previously starred in The Crown. The pair are joined by Edward Rowe who plays The Boatman, Flo Crowe who plays The Girl, Joe Gray who is The Miner and Loveday Twomlow who plays The Baby. Enys Men was released in theaters on 31st March 2023.
