Synopsis

Once enemies now united, Aquaman and his brother Orm form an alliance to defeat Black Manta

Black Manta has returned to seek vengeance on Aquaman after the death of his father. When he discovers the dark magic of the Black Trident, Black Manta’s power grows and he mounts a dangerous assault on Atlantis. In order to protect his Kingdom and defeat the cursed energy unleashed by the wielding of the Black Trident, Aquaman must ally with his former foe, his own brother Orm. The pair set aside their differences to protect the Seven Kingdoms and their own bloodline from destruction at the hands of their most formidable enemy yet.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is perfect for fans of the DCEU who can appreciate a campy, fun, and energetic superhero movie. It is a strong enough sequel to appeal to fans of the original, as well as fans of lighter superhero flicks like Shazam! and The Flash. So long as viewers don't take it too seriously and can appreciate some aquatic shenanigans, Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson's buddy dynamic, and undersea action and worldbuilding, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be quite the treat.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is a DC superhero movie directed by James Wan. The aquatic adventure movie takes place within the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) and once again stars leading man Jason Momoa in the iconic role as Arthur Curry. Better known as Aquaman, the titular character is a half-human/half-Atlantan superhero with the power to swim at supersonic speeds and speak to aquatic lifeforms. Momoa and director James Wan previously worked together on Aquaman.

Willem Dafoe stars alongside Jason Momoa as Nuidis Vulko, a mentor to Aquaman and the vizier of Atlantis. Yahya Abdul-Mateen returns as Black Manta, the King of Xebel. Patrick Wilson also returns as Arthur’s half-brother, Orm Marius, the former king of Atlantis. Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom was released in theaters on December 22, 2023.

- It is revealed that during the filming of the previous Aquaman movie, Jason Momoa pitched story ideas for the sequel. The actor sought to play a more active role in the film’s development.
