The Phoenician Scheme (2025)

Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme is a hilarious riff on business meetings, family melodramas, and backdoor scheming—all brought to life with a wonderfully dark sense of humor. Filled to the brim with Wes Anderson veterans and newbies alike, the comedy crackles particularly well between the deadpan Sister Liesl and her fast-scheming and typically aloof father Zsa-zsa Korda. Anderson's style has only become more refined with age, with a better sense for character and heart. The Phoenician Scheme is hilarious, even for people who aren't the biggest Anderson fans.

The Phoenician Scheme isn’t for every viewer, but it’s certainly excellent for those who adore Anderson’s specific brand of organized clutter. Gorgeously shot from beginning to end, it features some of the most astounding shots in Anderson’s filmography, even while the story of fathers and daughters doesn’t offer relatable themes for most viewers. Still, it’s one of the funniest of Anderson’s films, with standout performances from Mia Threapleton, Benicio del Toro, and Michael Cera, plus an incredible score with Anderson’s long-time collaborator, Alexandre Desplat.
