The Fantastic Four: First Steps is an upcoming superhero film directed by Matt Shakman for Marvel Studios and Disney. It is based on the Marvel comics characters of the same name created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. 2025's The Fantastic Four is the second film of the MCU’s Phase Six and the 38th overall film in the MCU.
The Fantastic Four previously had a film adaptation in 2005 and a sequel in 2007; both films starred Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch prior to his beloved tenure as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU beginning in 2011. The 2025 version has no relation to the previous movies as it is part of the MCU.
Matt Shakman is best known for working on the popular Disney+ series, WandaVision. He’s also previously directed episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fargo and Game of Thrones. The screenplay for The Fantastic Four: First Steps is written by Josh Friedman after replacing Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) as Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Julia Garner (Ozark) portrays Shalla-Bal. Ralph Ineson plays world-destroyer, Galactus. The supporting cast includes John Malkovich and Natasha Lyonne.
