James Gunn directs David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in first film of the DCU
Superman is an upcoming superhero film written and directed by James Gunn for DC Studios. It serves as the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) beginning in 2025. Following the DC Extended Universe (DCEU)'s run from 2013-2023 and the appointment of Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios, the DCU was announced with Superman (then-called Superman: Legacy) kickstarting the new cinematic universe. Gunn is a celebrated filmmaker within the comic book realm, having helmed the Guardians of the Galaxy films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) along with 2021's The Suicide Squad for DC and writing and directing for the Max series Peacemaker which is based on the character from the latter film. Gunn and Safran also serve as producers for Superman.
David Corenswet leads the film as Clark Kent/Superman. He's previously appeared in such titles as Pearl, The Politician and We Own This City. He also starred in and executive produced the Netflix miniseries, Hollywood. Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane in Superman. She is an Emmy award-winning actress who starred in Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Nicholas Hoult portrays the villainous Lex Luthor.
The supporting cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.
