Brie Larson teams up with Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani in Captain Marvel sequel
The Marvels is a superhero film directed by Nia DaCosta for Marvel Studios and Disney. It serves as a direct sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel and takes place following the events of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. It is also the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Two Disney+ TV shows build up to The Marvels. Firstly, in WandaVision, Monica Rambeau's superpowers flourished while assisting in rescuing the residents of Westview. Secondly, in her own Disney+ series, Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel unearthed her Djinn ancestry. DaCosta is the youngest director of an MCU film as of April 2023 and her previous directing credits include 2018’s Little Woods and Candyman in 2021. She co-wrote the screenplay for The Marvels along with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.
The film's returning cast members include Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. New additions include Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur reprise their roles from Ms. Marvel. Daniel Ings, Caroline Simonnet and Jessica Zhou round out the cast along with Carol's pet Goose who returns for The Marvels.
