A young woman, institutionalized by her abusive stepfather, retreats into a vivid fantasy world where she envisions a plan to escape. Gathering a group of fellow inmates, she embarks on a quest to collect five mystical items, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.
A visually-stunning message about teamwork and strength against adversity
“Sucker Punch” follows a group of girls who are stuck in an insane asylum where they’re abused by those who are supposed to be protecting them. But they use a form of escapism to survive, which takes audiences to these wild alternate realms. Zack Snyder is such a visual director, so it was fantastic to work with him in these wild settings, from futuristic worlds to fighting samurais and more. I also noticed a few years ago, during the movie’s 10th anniversary, that there started being a lot of buzz from a fresh wave of audiences who are appreciating the film in a whole new way, connecting with its message of teamwork and strength against adversity.
