In a world without the Avengers, who can humanity turn to? The Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine answers that question by assembling the ragtag group of mercenaries known as the Thunderbolts, led by Bucky Barns (aka the Winter Soldier). The group includes a variety of complex heroes looking for redemption including, John Walker (aka US Agent), Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and Ghost.
Thunderbolts* is an upcoming superhero action film produced by Marvel Studios and Disney about a ragtag group of mercenaries assembled to take the place of the Avengers. It is the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) overall, and closes out Phase Five. Indie filmmaker Jake Schreier directs Thunderbolts, while Lee Sung Jin (Beef) pens the screenplay.
The cast is made up of Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier) and Wyatt Russell as John Walker (aka US Agent), both reuniting after appearing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier together. They are joined by Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr (aka Ghost), and Steven Yeun in an unknown but key role.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Thunderbolts are a group of antiheroes assembled into a mercinary group. The members include The Winter Soldier, US Agent, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and Ghost.
At CinemaCon 2024, Kevin Feige revealed the addition (*) to the title but said the reason for it would only be explained once the film was released.
