Synopsis

Sam Wilson must learn to embrace his new role as Captain America while saving the world

A new Captain America debuts his shield in an ever-changing world. However, as Sam Wilson struggles to come to terms with his new role, he has plenty of other challenges to face — including a secret plot that threatens to upend the world as we know it.

Harrison Ford makes everything better

Don’t go into this without having seen The Falcon and the Winter Solider otherwise you’ll be out of the loop. You should probably watch The Hulk from 2008, too, as this is essentially a sequel to that story. While Brave New World suffers from poor visuals and lacklustre fight choreography, there's something to be said for seeing Harrison Ford give it absolutely everything as Thunderbolt Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson is a lot of fun in his big return to the MCU. There are some really cool facets of the narrative, too, especially the Isaiah Bradley sub-plot and Danny Ramirez stepping up as a hero.

I could watch this all day

There's nothing brave or particularly new about Captain America 4, aside from Anthony Mackie stepping up to play the Star-Spangled Avenger in his first lead outing. But if you can get past that, Brave New World is an enjoyable enough Marvel movie that adheres to formula while also answering questions from earlier films you may have forgotten, including Eternals and The Incredible Hulk. Harrison Ford can do no wrong in my book, so I got a kick out of watching him "Hulk out" as a new version of Thaddeus Ross (whose presidential run here is even more catastrophic than any seen in real life).
