The Gorge (2025)

The Gorge is the hottest new Apple TV+ original movie that everyone is talking about at the proverbial water cooler, and it’s essentially Maze Runner and The Hunger Games for grown-ups, which should be enough to pique anyone’s interest. However, as it’s a story in the hands of scary movie aficionado Scott Derrickson, there is, of course, a monster horror twist to this one, which has The Gorge feeling like a very loud, bombastic version of A Quiet Place. While nothing groundbreaking, Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy are always fun to watch and The Gorge is perfect weekend fodder for anyone seeking an easy watch.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s name on the cast list has become shorthand for “this film will be quirky, smart and probably a bit Gothic” - and she’s done it again here, with a brilliantly conceived thriller co-starring Miles Teller. The pair play two snipers, each commanded to stand guard on opposite sides of a wide, misty canyon which has something hellish below. They must not let whatever’s in the gorge come out, and must not communicate with each other. They definitely shouldn’t go down there… as the film drops clues about what the heck is actually happening, you’ll be desperate to know more.
