In the 1960s American Midwest, a group of misfits form a motorcycle club that, over the course of a decade, evolves into a dangerous biker gang. The fictional story unfolds as documentarian Danny Lyon seeks to understand how the gang rose to prominence through learning about the individual stories of its members.
The Bikeriders is an upcoming biker drama film produced by New Regency. The film follows the story of the rise and descent into crime of a fictional biker gang. The film is written and directed by Jeff Nichols, whose previous films include Academy Award-nominated Loving and Mud.
The Bikeriders is based on photographer Danny Lyon’s book of the same name documenting bikers in the 1960s. Director Jeff Nichols took inspiration and the title from the book while crafting his film.
The Bikeriders stars Austin Butler (Elvis) as a young biker named Benny, who is part of a biker gang founded by Johnny, played by Tom Hardy. Jodie Corner (Killing Eve) plays Kathy, Benny’s long suffering wife. They are joined by a host of other biker gang members including The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus as Funny Sonny and Michael Shannon as Zipco, in addition to Damon Herriman, Boyd Holbrook, Beau Knapp, Emory Cohen, Karl Glusman, Toby Wallace, and Happy Anderson. Mike Faist stars as the documentarian, Danny Lyon.
The Bikeriders will be released in cinemas in the UK on June 21, 2024.
