Richard Linklater and Glen Powell bring the true story of Gary Johnson to life for Netflix
Hit Man is a rom-com action-thriller produced for Netflix. The film is based on writer Skip Hollandworth’s 2001 story for Texas Monthly called Hit Man about a real man, Gary Johnson, who worked as a professor by day and a fake hitman for hire by night. Richard Linklater, known for the Before trilogy, Dazed and Confused, and Boyhood, directs the film and writes the script alongside star Glen Powell.
The titular undercover hitman, Gary Johnson, is played by Glen Powell, who is known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You. He is joined by Adria Arjona (Good Omens) as Gary’s love-interest Maddy Masters, Austin Amelio as an undercover cop Jasper, Retta as one of Gary’s superiors, Sanjay Rao as another high-ranking officer, and Evan Holtzman as Maddy’s husband, Ray. Other cast members include Molly Bernard and Mike Markoff.
