Josh Hutcherson stars in film adaptation of massively popular horror video game
Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror film with supernatural elements co-written and directed by Emma Tammi for Universal Pictures. It is based on the video games of the same name by Scott Cawthon which was originally released in 2014. Cawthon co-wrote the screenplay of the film along with Tammi and Seth Cuddeback. Successful horror producer Jason Blum co-produces the film with Cawthon. Blumhouse Productions is one of the production companies behind Five Nights at Freddy's with Striker Entertainment.
The main Five Nights at Freddy's series comprises nine video games set in various locations associated with a fictional family-oriented pizza restaurant chain called "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza," named after its animatronic bear mascot, Freddy Fazbear. The wildly successful franchise extends beyond the main series and encompasses spin-off games and additional media including a trilogy of novels and an anthology series, resulting in a vast fictional universe.
Josh Hutcherson stars in the lead role as Mike Schmidt. He is known for his roles in popular films like The Hunger Games series and Journey to the Center of the Earth. He is joined by Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Kat Conner Sterling, Mary Stuart Masterson, Matthew Lillard as William Afton, Lucas Grant and Jessica Blackmore.
