Patrick Wilson, star of the two original Insidious films, makes his directorial debut in fifth installment of the horror franchise
Insidious: The Red Door is a horror film with supernatural elements directed by Patrick Wilson for Sony Pictures. It serves as a direct sequel to the original two Insidious movies from 2010 and 2013 respectively and is the fifth overall entry into the franchise. Leigh Whannell created the Insidious universe and produces the film along with Jason Blum, Oren Peli and frequent collaborator, James Wan. Besides the Insidious films, first-time director Wilson has also starred in the Wan-created The Conjuring universe.
The original two Insidious movies follow the story of a couple whose son inexplicably slips into a comatose state and is possessed by ghosts residing in an otherworldly dimension known as "the Further." The couple is relentlessly pursued by demons from this realm until the entities claim the ultimate prize: their lives. The third installment serves as a prequel to the series and focuses on the same clairvoyant who aided the family in the previous films. This time, she offers her assistance to a young girl who possesses the ability to communicate with the dead. In the fourth movie titled The Last Key, the clairvoyant's own family is subjected to haunting experiences. The fifth addition to the franchise, The Red Door, continues the story of the original family but shifts its focus to their son Dalton who embarks on a college journey only to encounter a supernatural entity from his past.
Insidious: The Red Door stars the original actors from the first two films - Patrick Wilson as Josh Lambert, Rose Byrne as Renai, Ty Simpkins portraying Dalton and Andrew Astor as Foster. Peter Dager, Jarquez McClendon, Sinclair Daniel, and Hiam Abbass round out the cast.
