The film is based on the memoirs of the real-life Father Gabriele Amorth, who performed over 100,000 exorcisms between World War II and the dawn of the internet. The Pope’s Exorcist is directed by Julius Avery and stars Academy-Award-winner Russell Crow as Father Amorth himself. Julius Avery directs and the screenplay is written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos.
Franco Nero plays the Pope, and Peter Desouza-Feighoney makes his film debut as the young boy possessed by a terrible demon. Ralph Ineson voices the demonic entity hiding inside the boy. Alex Essoe and Daniel Zovatto also star in the film, and Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney make up the extended cast.
