Treasure hunter Lilith returns to her home planet of Pandora to search for Atlas’ missing daughter. Assembling an unlikely team of lovable misfits, the troop battle monsters and enemies alike in pursuit of the girl who holds immeasurable power.
Borderlands is a sci-fi comedy film produced by Lionsgate Films and follows the story of Lilith, and her team of bandits who are drawn into a galactic fight as they seek to find a missing girl with hidden power. The film is written and directed by horror icon Eli Roth and is based on the Gearbox Software video game of the same name. The video game is a first-person shooter that takes place in a Space Western world, mostly on a planet known as Pandora.
Borderlands features an all-star cast including Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchette as the outlaw Lilith. Her team members include ex-mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), demolitionist Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), fierce protector Krieg (Florian Munteanu), archaeologist Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), and robot Claptrap (voiced by Jack Black). Other cast members include Édgar Ramírez as Atlas, the most powerful beings in the universe, Gina Gershon, Bobby Lee, Benjamin Byron Davis, and others.
The Borderlands movie has its own completely original story, meaning that it is not based on any specific game. The film does, however, feature many well-known characters from the games.
According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, the Borderlands movie is not canon, but takes place within the Borderlands Cinematic Universe. While characters from the games appear, the events taking place in the film do not affect the games.
Borderlands was released in cinemas in the UK on August 9, 2024.
