David Gordon Green helms direct sequel to original Exorcist classic featuring return of Ellen Burstyn
The Exorcist: Believer is a supernatural horror film directed by David Gordon Green for Universal Pictures. It serves as a direct sequel to William Friedkin's iconic 1973 film The Exorcist which is widely regarded as one of the best horror films of all-time. Original star Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as Chris MacNeil after fifty years since the initial film's theatrical release. The Academy Award winner earned a nomination for her role in the 1973 classic, ultimately winning the accolade the following year for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.
Green previously directed the reboot to another beloved horror franchise, Halloween, in 2018 along with its subsequent sequels in 2021 and 2022. He is also known for helming such titles as Pineapple Express and Joe. Peter Sattler co-wrote the screenplay for The Exorcist: Believer alongside Green. Mega horror producer Jason Blum co-produces the film with Morgan Creek Entertainment under his Blumhouse Productions banner. Blumhouse is primarily known for their popular horror titles like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Get Out, Happy Death Day, Us, The Invisible Man and M3GAN, to name a few.
Leslie Odom Jr. portrays the lead role of Victor Fielding in The Exorcist: Believer alongside Lidya Jewett who portrays his daughter, Angela, and Olivia Marcum who stars as Katherine. Jennifer Nettles and Burstyn round out the film's main cast. The expanded cast includes Ann Dowd, Raphael Sbarge, Okwui Okpokwasili and Norbert Leo Butz.
