Stephen King short story adapted to the big screen by Dashcam director and A Quiet Place co-writers
The Boogeyman is a horror film with supernatural elements directed by Rob Savage for 20th Century Studios. It is based on the Stephen King short story of the same name which was released in 1973. Savage previously directed the uniquely presented horror films Host in 2020 and Dashcam the following year. Scott Beck and Bryan Woods co-wrote the screenplay of The Boogeyman alongside Mark Heyman. Back and Woods are a screenwriting duo best known for their collaboration with director John Krasinski on A Quiet Place in 2018. Heyman co-wrote the psychological thriller, Black Swan, with Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin in 2010. The Boogeyman is produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine. Levy produced the Netflix series Stranger Things along with Cohen. He and Levine were also producers on 2016's Arrival.
Chris Messina, who previously appeared in Argo, stars as Will, a recent widower and father to two daughters. The Book of Boba Fett’s Sophie Thatcher portrays Sadie, the older sister who maintains a skeptical attitude. The youngest daughter, Sawyer, is portrayed by Vivien Lyra Blair who starred in Obi-Wan Kenobi. David Dastmalchian takes on the role of Lester, Will's troubled patient while The Umbrella Academy’s Marin Ireland stars as Rita. Dr. Weller is played by LisaGay Hamilton and Madison Hu also stars in the film.
