Netflix enlists Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director to helm true-life story on flight disaster

Society of the Snow (La sociedad de la nieve) is a Spanish survival thriller film directed by J. A. Bayona for Netflix. It is based on Pablo Vierci's book titled "La sociedad de la nieve (The Snow Society: The Definitive Account of the World's Greatest Survival Story)" wherein sixteen survivors of the crash shared their experiences with Vierci. Many of the survivors knew the author since they were children. Bayona co-wrote the screenplay with frequent collaborator Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego. Bayona's previous directing credits include The Impossible, A Monster Calls and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. 

Veteran composer Michael Giacchino scored the music for Society of the Snow. He has received numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career including an Academy Award for Best Original Score for 2009's Up along with a nomination in 2007 for Ratatouille. His other credits include Lost, The Incredibles, Cloverfield, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jojo Rabbit and The Batman, just to name a few.

Society of the Snow stars many new actors from Uruguay and Argentina.
