Synopsis
The past echoes in the future as humanity faces a terrifying new threat
Amidst the chaos of the Cultural Revolution in China, a secret military group sends signals to outer space. In the present day, those signals result in the slow arrival of an alien species. The approach of the mysterious life forms sends Earth into a panic. Humanity is split, divided on how to engage with the extraterrestrials. While some want to fight what they believe is inevitable domination, others are ready to give up the planet to a superior life form. Throughout the crisis, conspiracies and mysteries unravel leaving nothing as it first appears.

Game of Thrones creators take on a sci-fi mystery project with Benedict Wong and Rosalind Chao
3 Body Problem Season 1 is a science fiction mystery drama created based on the novel of the same name by writer Liu Cixin. The show is developed by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. They are joined by Alexander Woo who is known for writing episodes of True Blood as well as The Terror. Derek Tsang is responsible for directing the 3 Body Problem Season 1 pilot episode. The show features an impressive list of executive producers including Lin Qi, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Rosamund Pike, Rian Johnson, Bernadette Caulfield, and more.
3 Body Problem Season 1 features an ensemble cast led by Rosalind Chao as Ye Wenjie and Benedict Wong as Da Shi. The pair are joined by Game of Thrones alums Liam Cunningham and John Bradley. The cast also includes Saamer Usmani, Jess Hong, Jovan Adepo, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Eiza Gonzalez, Alex Sharp, Ben Schnetzer, Jonathan Pryce, Eve Ridley, Jason Forbes, and Stacy Abalogun. 3 Body Problem Season 1 was released on Netflix on March 21, 2024.
