The ship called Demeter embarks on a doomed mission from Carpathia to London, but unbeknownst to the captain and crew, they are carrying a sinister cargo that terrorises them in the night. Will anyone survive the journey?
The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a supernatural horror film produced by Universal Pictures. The film is based on a stand-alone chapter in Bram Stoker’s 1897 book Dracula called the Captain’s Log. The chapter details the doomed journey of the captain and crew of a ship unwittingly carrying a sinister cargo from Carpathia to London. Norwegian director Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter) helms the projects, and frequent collaborator Roman Osin acts as cinematographer for the film. The screenplay is written by Bragi F Schut, Stefan Ruzowitzky, and Zak Olkewicz. Thomas Newman composes the haunting score.
Corey Hawkins plays Clemens, a doctor on board the fated vessel. Hawkins is no stranger to a bit of supernatural action, having already played key roles in The Walking Dead and Kong: Skull Island, in addition to more dramatic roles in BlacKkKlansman, The Tragedy of Macbeth, and In the Heights. He is joined aboard the Demeter by Aisling Franciosi as Anna, a stowaway on the ship. Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) plays the captain of the ship, and David Dastmalchian is the first mate, Wojchek.
