A deranged love story unfolds in Arkham Asylum, when Arthur Fleck (now The Joker) meets Harley Quinn. As the two bond through music and song, they descend deeper and deeper into their madness.
Joker: Folie à Deux is a musical psychological thriller film produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros and follows the story of how the Joker and Harley Quinn first met. The film is a sequel to 2019’s acclaimed film Joker, and once more features the infamous DC comics Batman villain in the main role. The creative team from the first film returns for Folie à Deux, including Todd Phillips as director, Scott Silver as co-screenwriter, and Lawrence Sher as cinematographer.
Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the deranged Arthur Fleck (aka Joker). In 2020, Phoenix won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as the Joker. This time he is joined by Lady Gaga, portraying the equally deranged supervillain Harley Quinn. Returning for a second round is Zazie Beetz as Fleck’s concerned neighbour, Sophie Dumond. New members of the cast in Folie à Deux are Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Harry Lawtey, and Jacob Lofland.
While a young Bruce Wayne briefly appears in Joker (played by Dante Pereira-Olson), the sequel film takes place directly after the first film. This means that while we might see Bruce Wayne again in Joker 2, it is unlikely he will be old enough to have transformed into Batman by that time.
Yes, Joker 2 is violent. In addition, the US's Motion Picture Association has already given the film an R-rating for violence, language, brief nudity, and sexual content.
Joker: Folie à Deux was released in cinemas on October 4, 2024.
