Glenn Howerton and Jay Baruchel star in the story of the rise and fall of the BlackBerry phone
BlackBerry is a Canadian biographical comedy-drama film produced by Rhombus Media and Zapruder Films. The film is based on the book Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry by journalists Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcoff, which documents the rocky history of the first smartphone. Canadian director Matt Johnson (The Dirties, Operation Avalanche) helms the project, and writes the script alongside screenwriter and producer Matthew Miller.
Jay Baruchel (Tropic Thunder) and Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) star as Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, the co-creators of Research in Motion, the company behind the invention of the BlackBerry. Cary Elwes plays American businessman Carl Yankowski, while SungWon Cho plays Research in Motion recruit Ritchie Cheung. Michelle Giroux plays investigator Dara Franke, Saul Rubinek plays tech skeptic John Woodman, and director Matt Johnson gets in on the action to portray BlackBerry co-founder Douglas Fregin.
