This is the true story of how in the 1980s, a then-small shoe company called Nike doggedly pursued a collaboration with Michael Jordan that would result in the culture-defining sneakers known as Air Jordans. At center stage are the legendary basketball player himself, his talented but unconventional team, his steadfast mother, and sports marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro as they move towards a deal that would shape contemporary sports culture.

AIR: Courting a Legend is an American sports-drama produced by Amazon Studios. The film is directed by Ben Affleck (Argo) and written by Alex Convery. Affleck stars in the film alongside his long-time filmmaking partner Matt Damon, with whom he first collaborated to make Good Will Hunting (1997).
Affleck plays Nike founder Phil Knight, and Damon portrays the visionary sports marketing exec Sonny Vaccaro. AIR also stars Viola Davis as Deloris Jordan, Michael’s fiercely protective mother, in addition to Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans, Chris Messina, and Chris Tucker. Michael Jordan himself does not appear as a character in the film, but remains an overarching presence throughout. AIR marks the first film produced by a streaming company to have a theatrical release with a screening window comparable to, or longer than that of major film studios.
