Timothée Chalamet portrays the iconic Wonka character in prequel by Paddington director
Wonka is a musical-fantasy film co-written and directed by Paul King for Warner Bros. Pictures. It is a prequel to the Roald Dahl children’s novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was released in 1964. King previously wrote and directed two entries in the beloved Paddington franchise. He co-wrote Wonka with his Paddington 2 collaborator Simon Farnaby. Wonka is produced by David Heyman, who produced every entry in the Harry Potter film franchise after securing the rights to it in 1999, Luke Kelly and Alexandra Derbyshire. Chung-hoon Chung handles the film's cinematography whose previous credits include 2003's Oldboy, The Handmaiden and the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series on Disney+.
Following much speculation as to who will portray the eccentric chocolatier, with names like Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller floating around, Timothée Chalamet was ultimately picked to wield the cane. He is joined by an amazingly talented cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Jim Carter, Matt Lucas, Natasha Rothwell, Tom Davis, Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Paterson Joseph as Arthur Slugworth.
