Dakota Johnson makes her superhero debut in film helmed by Dexter writer
Madame Web is a superhero film directed by S. J. Clarkson for Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the fourth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and is based on the Marvel Comics character by Denny O'Neil and John Romita Jr.
S. J. Clarkson is a prominent screenwriter for television, having written on such TV shows as Dexter, Heroes, House and Ugly Betty. The screenplay for Madame Web is written by the pairing of Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless whose previous credits include Dracula Untold and 2022's SSU entry, Morbius. Madame Web is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam and Palak Patel.
Although several highly regarded A-list actresses were in contention for the lead role, it was ultimately Dakota Johnson who secured the part of Madame Web. Johnson is best known for her role in the Fifty Shades trilogy as well as 2018’s Suspiria remake. Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney stars alongside Johnson, portraying Julia Carpenter. Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet round out the cast.
