The all-new original series continues the animated adventures seen in the popular show that ran from 1992 until 1997. It features mutants in a world where their existence is stigmatized. Despite this, the group are determined to use their powers for good.
Following on from the events in the animated series, X-Men '97 picks up the story of beloved Professor Charles Xavier and the X-Men. Professor X is recovering on a far-off alien planet as the war between humans and mutants continues. Magneto, the master of magnetism, has been tasked by his old friend to lead the X-Men. But can Magneto abide by the moral conduct and principled rules of Xavier's students? The X-Men seek peace and not vengeance, which is the driving force of Magneto's power. Marvel’s mutants must rally to protect the original dream of their founder while facing the threat of Nathaniel Essex, otherwise known as Mister Sinister.
"X-Men ‘97 isn’t a new series or a reboot, but instead is a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992-1997. Keeping the original intro and the old-school 90s cartoon aesthetic, the show is an extremely faithful continuation of the popular animated series. For anyone who loves X-Men, or anyone who wants a great blast from the past, X-Men ‘97 is undeniably fun. The series is also loaded with Marvel easter eggs for hardcore fans to find."
"X-Men '97 is essential viewing for fans of the original X-Men: The Animated Series, as well as modern Marvel fans. It is the perfect sequel for adult viewers who enjoyed the original series as children. Meanwhile, newer fans do not need to watch the original series to appreciate the new one. The show leans heavily into nostalgia and its iconic theme song but also elevates its premise with a more sophisticated dive into the X-Men's central themes of acceptance. X-Men '97 remains true to its predecessor while incorporating some modernization and maturity for current audiences."
