Seven years after Netflix’s hit Daredevil series concluded, the street hero returned for Disney+’s soft reboot Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio reprise their iconic roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, respectively, in a dark, gritty take on the Marvel character.
As the series continues propelling Daredevil to popularity, viewers can use our guide to find out how to watch all of his TV shows and movies in order on platforms like Disney+ and more!
Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends Season 3 Episode 4
Murdock (Frank Weller) makes a guest appearance in the animated series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends season 3, episode 4, “Attack of the Arachnoid.” Spider-Man (Dan Gilvezan) hires Murdock as his lawyer to clear his name after Scorpion (Jeff Doucette) frames him for a crime. He is the perfect choice for Spider-Man’s lawyer, as he doesn’t force him to reveal his identity because he knows all too well what it’s like to have an alter-ego. The episode predominantly showed Murdock in lawyer form and gave viewers an interesting perspective into how he manages his professional and superhero identities.
The Trial of the Incredible Hulk
Daredevil’s first live-action appearance was in the made-for-TV-film The Trial of the Incredible Hulk. In the movie, Dr. Banner (Bill Bixby) taps Murdock (Rex Smith) to represent him in court when he is wrongfully charged for an assault he tried to stop. Unbeknownst to Banner, Murdock is also the vigilante and defender of New York, Daredevil. The film as a whole was quite campy and low budget, but Smith offers a surprisingly strong performance as Murdock. He may not have the complexity and suit of more modern Daredevils, but his stunts were on point, and he capitalized on the warm-hearted, charming, and funny version of Murdock.
Spider-Man (1994)
Daredevil is a recurring guest in Spider-Man (1994), voiced by Edward Albert. The series puts its own spin on Murdock’s origin story, as it reveals he was blinded in an accident after witnessing his father working for Fisk (Roscoe Lee Browne). Murdock dons the Daredevil mantle to get revenge on Fisk and bring justice to Hell’s Kitchen. He meets Spider-Man (Christopher Daniel Barnes) through his lawyer profession. For many modern fans, this series was their first TV intro to Daredevil, and he certainly left an impression with his stunning combat skills and flair for drama.
Fantastic Four (1994) Season 2 Episode 1
Daredevil (Bill Smitrovich) boasts a guest appearance in Fantastic Four (1994), season 2, episode 1, “And a Blind Man Shall Lead Them.” In the episode, Daredevil arrives to help the Fantastic Four after they lose their powers, leaving them vulnerable to Doctor Doom (Simon Templeman). With a comic book-accurate design and unique episode concept, Fantastic Four: The Animated Series marks a strong guest appearance from Daredevil and demonstrates that, despite frequently working solo, he did have many encounters and alliances with major Marvel heroes.
Daredevil (2003)
Daredevil marks Murdock’s first and only solo film. Ben Affleck takes on the role of lawyer Murdock, who defends Hell’s Kitchen at night as the vigilante Daredevil. However, when Fisk (Michael Clarke Duncan) sends assassin Bullseye (Colin Farrell) to take out Daredevil, the vigilante struggles to know who he can trust. Affleck offers an interesting iteration of Daredevil as he captures the vigilante’s imposing figure and brooding nature. However, he deviates significantly from the comic book version with his brutal fight scenes and lack of conscience.
Daredevil (2015)
Daredevil premiered on Netflix in 2015, kicking off its Defenders collection and popularizing the character. In the series, Murdock (Cox) struggles to balance his life as a lawyer and vigilante while probing the meaning of justice as villains like Fisk (D’Onofrio) and Punisher (Jon Bernthal) push him to his limits. Cox is easily the best iteration of Daredevil, perfectly capturing his sense of justice and charm while acknowledging his darker, brooding side. Meanwhile, Daredevil finds the perfect dark, gritty, and haunting tone for Cox and D’Onofrio to shine while offering viewers a complex hero in a mature series that probes justice, religion, and heroism.
The Defenders
The Defenders sees Murdock (Cox) form a superhero team with fellow vigilantes Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) to fight the Hand. Given its tie-in to Daredevil season 3, The Defenders series is vital in understanding Cox’s iteration of Daredevil. It’s an important chapter in his journey as he learns to accept help and navigates the re-appearance of Elektra (Élodie Yung). Viewers see a more vulnerable and conflicted Murdock who questions his Daredevil identity, while The Defenders comprises a successful and effective crossover of Netflix’s Marvel show.
Spider-Man: No Way Home
After Marvel brought Netflix’s Defenders universe under the Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella, Cox’s Murdock made his official MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He appears only as Murdock in a brief cameo where he is revealed to be the lawyer helping Peter Parker (Tom Holland) navigate his identity as Spider-Man leaking to the public. The short cameo is an exciting nod to Daredevil and Spider-Man’s close connection in Marvel Comics, and it is deeply satisfying to see Cox seamlessly enter the MCU and settle right back into Murdock’s charm and professionalism as a lawyer.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
In the Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) is a rival lawyer to Murdock (Cox). However, after she learns he also has a secret superhero identity, the pair team up and quickly hit it off as they realize how much they have in common. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is one of the more light-hearted, comedic Marvel Disney+ shows, filled with humor, fourth-wall-breaking, and relatability. Hence, viewers get a lighter, more romantic, easy-going version of Daredevil and a glimpse of his comic book-accurate yellow suit.
Echo
Cox’s Daredevil boasts a brief appearance in the MCU miniseries Echo. A spinoff of Hawkeye, Echo follows Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she confronts her past as Fisk’s protegée and reconnects with her Indigenous roots. In a flashback scene in episode 1, she runs into Daredevil while on a mission for Fisk. Daredevil poses an intimidating, brooding, and largely silent opponent but fails to scare Maya, who fights him to a draw. The fight scene is epic and also serves as a reminder of how Lopez, Fisk, and Daredevil’s stories have always been entwined.
X-Men ‘97 Season 1 Episode 10
Daredevil has a nonspeaking cameo in the final episode of X-Men ‘97. He’s among the numerous heroes who arrive to fight Bastion’s (Theo James) forces, and viewers catch a glimpse of him working with Cloak and Dagger. It’s a nostalgic glimpse that mainly serves to honor his animated roots as he boasts the same design from his Spider-Man (1994) appearances. It remains to be seen if he appears in X-Men ‘97 season 2.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 Episode 6
Daredevil, voiced by Cox, makes a guest appearance in the MCU’s animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The series follows Spider-Man’s (Hudson Thames) origin story in an alternate timeline where Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) is his mentor. In episode 6, Spider-Man is dispatched to Oscorp to stop an intruder, who turns out to be Daredevil. The pair fight briefly, and Daredevil warns Spider-Man that he believes Osborn is hiding something sinister. The exhilarating fight scenes, animation, Cox’s voice-acting, and the banter with Spider-Man raise hopes that Daredevil’s animated MCU career will expand.
Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again picks up several years after the events of Daredevil at a time when Murdock has given up his vigilante activities. However, when Fisk resurfaces to run for Mayor of New York, and Murdock begins to suspect corruption in the NYPD, the pressure for Daredevil to return rises. Daredevil: Born Again excellently matches the original's dark tone and gritty nature while continuing to probe themes of justice, vigilantism, and corruption. It holds nothing back in exploring Daredevil's more haunted, conflicted, and darker side, making for a thrilling and mature superhero series.
