Franklin is a biographical drama television miniseries. It is directed by Tim Van Patten, a television director best known for his work on shows such as The Pacific, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and Masters of the Air among others. The series is produced by Apple Studios, Flame Ventures, and ITV Studios.
Multi-award-winning actor Michael Douglas stars in the lead role as Benjamin Franklin. Douglas is best known for the movies Wall Street, Fatal Attraction, and Basic Instinct. He is joined by British actor Noah Jupe who has starred in series such as The Night Manager and The Undoing. Jupe stars as William Temple Franklin. The cast also includes Marc Duret, Ludivine Sagfnier, Thibault de Montalembert, Daniel Mays, Assaab Bouab, Eddie Marsan, Jeanne Balibar, Theodore Pellerin, and John Hollingworth.
This historical drama was filmed in the region of Versailles, just outside Paris. It is famous for the incredible Palace that was once the residence of the French monarchy.

The TV miniseries is based on the book A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America. The book is written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff and has won the Ambassador Book Award for American Studies. While the show may take some liberties in the presentation of events, the focus of the series is to depict this crucial moment in American history.
