The Gentlemen is a crime drama television series produced for Netflix. The series is created, co-written, and co-directed by acclaimed director Guy Ritchie, known for his films such as Sherlock Holmes, Snatch, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. The series is based on Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey and Charlie Hunnam. The Gentleman marks the second time Ritchie has adapted one of his films for the small screen, after first converting Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels into a Channel 4 series called Lock, Stock… in 2000. Guy Ritchie co-writes the series alongside Matthew Read (Peaky Blinders), and Hugh Warren produces.
The Gentlemen uses all-new characters and stars The White Lotus actor Theo James in as Eddie Halstead, the unwitting heir to a criminal fortune. He is joined by Ray Winstone as Bobby Glass, the overlord of a vast cannabis empire, and Kaya Scodelario as Glass’ business-savvy daughter, Susie. Other cast members include acclaimed Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Max Beesley, and others.
