Synopsis
An astrophysicist’s choices in 1960s China manifest in a present-day encounter with an alien civilisation
After seeing her father murdered in front of her during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, Ye Wenjie is recruited by the military to work as an astrophysicist on a new project. Game of Thrones creators Benioff and Weiss adapt prescient sci-fi trilogy with Alexander Woo for Netflix
3 Body Problem is a sci-fi drama series produced by Netflix. The series is based on a book trilogy called Remembrance of Earth’s Past by Chinese author Liu Cixin, which follows the story of humanity’s first alien encounter. The first book in the series is titled Three Body Problem. The English-language series is written and executive produced by Game of Thrones duo David Benioff and DB Weiss, and True Blood’s Alexander Woo. Knives Out and Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson executive produces, and Better Days director Derek Tsang directs the series.
3 Body Problem stars Rosalind Chao as Ye Wenjie, an astrophysicist working for the Chinese military whose dilemma changes the course of humanity. Her younger self is portrayed by Zine Tseng in her on-screen debut. Other cast members include Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Eiza González, Alex Sharp, Saamer Usmani, Liam Cunningham, Sir Jonathan Pryce, Marlo Kelly, Sea Shimooka, Eve Ridley, and others.
