In Kamurocho, Japan in 1995, Kiryu and his friends Nishiki, Yumi, and Miho get involved with the yakuza, forging complicated and deep relationships with mentors, friends, and powerful figures alike. Ten years later, Kiryu is released from prison and returns to Kamurocho, intent on protecting his friends from a new threat. However, when he arrives he discovers that tensions are near breaking point between rival gangs.
