Echo is an American superhero-origin series produced by Marvel Studios for Disney+ and based on the Marvel comics character of the same name. It is a spin-off from the Disney’s series Hawkeye and is created by Marion Dayre, who is known for her writing on Better Call Saul. Catriona McKenzie and Sydney Freeland direct the series, with the latter coming from a range of projects such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Fear the Walking Dead, and Reservation Dogs. As the series resides within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continuity, Echo is a character originally appearing in the Marvel comics as Daredevil villain Kingpin’s adoptive daughter. She was first introduced into the MCU in the third episode of Hawkeye, ‘Echoes’. The character in the series comes from a Native American background and was rendered deaf as a child, developing an enhanced ability to lipread and mimic those around her.
The leading role in the series is played by Alaqua Cox, who portrays Maya Lopez (aka Echo), a deaf Native American superhero. Zahn McClarnon plays her father, William Lopez, in the series, and is joined by Daredevil characters Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox as Kingpin and Daredevil, respectively. The rest of the cast includes Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, and others.
