Synopsis
A young atrophysicist’s decisions in the 1960s play a key role in new present-day contact with alien life
In 1960s China, a young astrophysicist Ye Wenjie is recruited for a research project by the military after seeing her father brutally murdered in front of her. While working, the decisions she makes then result in consequences that carry over to the present day, where researchers are making first contact with an alien civilisation.

3 Body Problem Season 1 is the first season of the sci-fi drama series produced by Netflix. The series is based on author Liu Cixin’s book trilogy called Remembrance of Earth trilogy, whose first instalment is called Three Body Problem. The season lasts 8 episodes and covers the first book. 3 Body Problem is written and executive produced by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss, alongside True Blood’s Alexander Woo. Rian Johnson (Knives Out and Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi) also executive produces, while Derek Tsang (Better Days) directs most of the episodes.
Rosalind Chao stars in 3 Body Problem as the astrophysicist Ye Wenjie, whose past decisions carry lasting effects into the modern age. A younger version of Wenjie is portrayed by Zine Tseng in her first acting role. The cast is rounded out by the MCU’s Benedict Wong, Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Saamer Usmani, Sir Jonathan Pryce, Marlo Kelly, Sea Shimooka, Eve Ridley, Alex Sharp, and more.
