Meg 2: The Trench is the second instalment in the action thriller film series, starting with 2018’s The Meg by director Ben Wheatley for Warner Bros. The film is based on the book The Trench written by Steve Alten, and Wheatley joins once again as director for round two. Wheatley’s other works include Free Fire, High-Rise, and Rebecca. Haris Zambarloukos (Belfast) is the production’s cinematographer, and Harry Gregson-Williams returns to compose the film’s score.
Jason Statham reprises his role as Jonas Taylor. He is joined by Cliff Curtis as Taylor’s friend Max, and Page Kennedy as DJ. While Shuya Sophia Cai returns as Suyin's daughter, Meiying, Li Bingbing herself does not return to play Suyin. New cast members include Skyler Samuels as a submarine crewmember, Sienna Guillory as the head of the applied sciences division, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta as one of the film’s human villains. Other newcomers include Ray Strachan and Wu Jing (Wolf Warrior).
