Jakub Prochazka is an astronaut sent on a mission to the far reaches of the galaxy to find an ancient dust. But while he’s out in space, he begins to reckon with the sacrifices he’s made in the name of ambition, and whether or not it is too late to make reparations. Alone, he finds solace in a possibly imaginary being aboard his ship, and the two form an unlikely, deep bond.
Spaceman is an upcoming sci-fi drama film produced by Tango Entertainment and Free Association for a Netflix distribution. Johan Renck, a Swedish film and music video director, helms the project. He is best known for directing the HBO’s award-winning mini-series Chernoby (2019). Spaceman is based on Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel, Spaceman of Bohemia, about an orphaned Czech scientist who journeys into space and begins having philosophical conversations with a being aboard his ship, as he tries to puzzle through the mysteries of love, ambition, and self-knowledge. Colby Day writes the screenplay and famed German-British composer Max Richter creates the music.
Adam Sandler stars as the lead character, Jakub Prochazka, and acclaimed actor Carey Mulligan joins him as Lenka. The rest of the all-star cast includes Paul Dano, Kunal Nayyar and Isabella Rossellini.
