After a sudden breakup, Amanda, who works in the travel industry, accepts a secret assignment to learn more about Vietnam's tourism industry. She arrives in Vietnam during their Lunar New Year celebration called the Tết festival and sets out on a journey of self-discovery. During her travels, she meets Sinh, a Vietnamese expat who works as her tour guide, and they fall in love. Together, they decide to take control of the tour bus and explore unconventional ways of living and loving.
A Tourist's Guide to Love is a rom-com film directed by Steven K. Tsuchida for Netflix. Tsuchida has previously directed episodes of Community and Dear White People along with directing his first Netflix romantic comedy in 2021’s Resort to Love. Vietnamese-American writer Eirene Donohue wrote the screenplay for A Tourist’s Guide to Love, utilizing her own experiences while traveling around Vietnam as a source of inspiration.
Rachael Leigh Cook stars as Amanda Riley, a travel executive looking for a change following an abrupt breakup. Cook is best known for her roles in the 1999 rom-com She’s All That and 2001’s Josie and the Pussycats. She has also voiced numerous characters in the Robot Chicken TV series along with Tifa Lockhart in the Final Fantasy series. Besides starring in the film, she also produces A Tourist’s Guide to Love along with Joel S. Rice. The film marks Cook’s second collaboration with Netflix following 2020’s Love, Guaranteed where she also starred and produced in.
Scott Ly portrays Amanda’s expat love interest, Sinh. Missi Pyle, Ben Feldman, Nondumiso Tembe, Andrew Barth Feldman and Nondumiso Tembe round out the supporting cast.
