Asher and Whitney Siegel live in the town of Espanola, where the pair are producing a home-improvement show while also trying to have a baby. Oblivious to the real needs of the local community, the Siegels use their wealth and status in unflattering ways. The residents of Espanola become extras in their television show until one curse changes their fortunes.
"The Curse is perfect for fans of satire and those who can stomach Nathan Fielder's cringe comedy. Things get uncomfortable in The Curse, but it will appeal to those who recognize this is the purpose. In tackling issues from racism to classism to narcissism to the toxic reality TV industry in the most blunt, brutal, and hilarious way possible, it forces viewers to acknowledge and self-reflect on society's most fundamental flaws. For those who can recognize and interpret satire and handle some second-hand embarrassment, The Curse is unlike any other show."
"A24 and Showtime have teamed up for The Curse, which is a sure bet for fans of the studio’s unique style. With complicated characters, deep meanings, tons of biting societal critiques, and a bit of campy humor along the way, The Curse follows a couple who try to make an HGTV-style home makeover show in a working-class New Mexico town. Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder both shine with performances that are humorous and uncomfortably awkward. If you love slow-burn stories filled with bubbling tension and flawed (but compelling) leads, you’re going to love The Curse."
