Synopsis
The legendary true story of Bass Reeves who went from slavery to law enforcement
Bass Reeves is known as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Born into slavery, Reeves’ story is an incredible tale that sees him rise up to become one of the greatest marshals in U.S. history. Arresting over 3000 outlaws, Reeves is a powerful figure but his work takes a toll on his life and his family.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves Season 1 is a neo-western anthology television series. It is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan who is known for his work on television shows such as Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923. Lawmen: Bass Reeves Season 1 is based on the book series The Bass Reeves Trilogy by Sidney Thompson. Chad Feehan is the creator and showrunner of Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
David Oyelowo stars in the lead role as Bass Reeves. The rest of the cast includes Dennis Quaid who stars as Deputy U.S. Marshal Sherill Lynn. Emmy Award-winning actor Donald Sutherland who plays Judge Isaac Parker. Native American actor Forest Goodluck plays Billy Crow. The cast also includes Barry Pepper as Esau Pierce, Grantham Coleman as Edwin Jones, and Demi Singleton as Sally Reeves. There are recurring roles in the show for Dale Dickey, Garrett Hedlund, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Justin Hurtt-Dunkely, and Shea Whigham. Lawmen: Bass Reeves Season 1 was released on Paramount+ on 5th November 2023.
