Mayfair Witches Season 1 is a supernatural thriller drama based on the trilogy of novels Lives of the Mayfair Witches written by Anne Rice. The show is created by poet and screenwriter Esta Spalding and Emmy-nominated writer Michelle Ashford. Ashford is known for writing the television series Masters of Sex and the movie Operation Mincemeat. The eight-episode first season is produced by AMC Studios and distributed by AMC Networks.
Mayfair Witches Season 1 features Alexandra Daddario playing Dr. Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who is the heiress of the Mayfair dynasty. She is joined by Harry Hamlin playing Cortland Mayfair, head of the family. Tongayi Chirisa plays Ciprien Grieve and Jack Huston steps in to portray Lasher, the supernatural entity bound to the Mayfair witches. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season 1 was released on January 8th, 2023 on AMC+.
In December 2019 Warner Bros held the rights to the Mayfair Witches book series. The author Anne Rice began to offer the rights to other networks and production companies. AMC purchased the rights to the books in May 2020. By December 2021, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches was underway with an eight-episode order. Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford were attached to develop the series. The casting news was announced in March 2022 with Alexandra Daddario cast as the lead Dr. Rowan Fielding. The rest of the cast was announced by April 2022 before filming began in May of the same year in New Orleans. The first season finished filming in September 2022. The following month the first trailer for the show was released. Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season 1 debuted on AMC+ on January 8th, 2023.
