Flow (2024)

It's hard to believe that Flow was created using the open-source animation software Blender. Viewers will only detect that the animation style is innovative and wholly mesmerizing. Flow is a simplistic film that portrays animals realistically rather than as anthropomorphic characters, further adding to its unique and refreshing premise. Although simplistic, the film holds an astonishing level of depth as it probes themes of companionship, cooperation, and balance. Flow will especially appeal to fans of projects like Watership Down, which seek to speak to viewers through animals and realism.

Flow begins with a massive flood that disrupts a peaceful forest and its inhabitants – like our protagonist cat, who goes on a wild adventure of making friends and finding family. Flow is a gorgeous animated movie with vibrant colors and a wonderful setting. It feels like it’s a spiritual successor to a Studio Ghibli movie, so if you’re a fan of the iconic Japanese studio – or other vibrant and emotional animated movies like The Wild Robot – you’ll absolutely love Flow.
