V/H/S has become a popular anthology horror film series, with each movie showcasing numerous short films. The original film was released in 2012 and featured various directors and screenwriters that would later become huge in the horror industry, like Ti West (the X trilogy) and Tyler Gillett (Scream & Scream VI).
Since then the franchise has continued to release more movies, and with 2024’s release of V/H/S Beyond, the series now has 7 films and 2 feature-length spin-offs. Despite originally premiering as indie films, in recent years the franchise has become a Shudder Original and the newer films can be streamed exclusively on Shudder as well as AMC+ – while the first three can be found on other streamers like Hulu. There’s two ways to watch the V/H/S series, chronologically and by release date. If you want to watch the films in release date order it would look like this.

But as you probably notice, a lot of the films have years after their title, that’s because many of the movies jump around and take place in a specific year.
In chronological order, the movies roughly follow a simple trajectory, though there’s a bit of confusion with the first two films since the timeline hadn’t been established yet. For example, in the first V/H/S movie, most of the segments take place in the present day, but the finale segment is “10/31/98” technically placing this segment second chronologically after V/H/S 85.
