When high school student Dai Miyamoto is taken by a friend to a jazz concert, he is so inspired he puts all of his effort into becoming a top saxophonist. Blue Giant is an anime film produced by the Japanese animation studio NUT and distributed by TOHO Animation. The film is directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, who previously collaborated with NUT to make Deca-Dence. Other works by Tachikawa include Mob Psycho 100 and Death Parade. Blue Giant is based on Shin’ichi Ishizuka’s award-winning 2013–2016 manga of the same title. The screenplay is adapted by the manga’s editor, NUMBER 8.
The star of Blue Giant is Yuki Yamada who voices Dai Miyamoto, the saxophonist at the heart of the story; Shōtarō Mamiya plays Yukinori Sawabe, a pianist that Dai Miyamoto meets in Tokyo; and Amane Okayama plays Dai’s school friend, Shunji Tamada.
